My Daughters '08 Pilot is on DW-1 that has been dealer maintained and seems to be working ok. Ultimately, 3rd gear decided it was longer wanting to work but had almost 260k on it. I changed to VML and it was working but a but more noticeable on shifts. I changed the real dirty fluid with DW-1 a couple times and it was much better then started having issues again. In my '04 CRV that wasn't maintained well prior for tranny it was having shift issues. Some manufactures are making fluid labelled as DW-1 in a synthetic and "recommended" for that but does not list as having Honda approval/authorization. Some prefer the VML, in the new Pilot the DW-1 seems better and people trying different tranny fluids including VML to get original shift quality in a synthetic version but it doesn't shift as original. Next is the overall shift characteristics and different viscosity improvers etc. First is that VML is synthetic and DW-1 is not so the whole life/durability/cleanliness thing. There are many debates on different forums between the DW-1 and VML.
